A chemical peel can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, superficial blemishes and pigment problems. The process is often used to treat the detrimental effects of smoking and overexposure to the sun.

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of a chemical skin peel?

Chemical skin peels can be very effective in reducing the appearance of fine surface lines and wrinkles, blemishes, pigment variations and acne scarring, They help to smooth the skin and improve its appearance and texture. They can help reduce the ageing effects of smoking and sun exposure, giving your skin a more youthful, healthy glow.

Chemical peels can be used to treat a particular area (such as lines around the eyes or mouth) or all over the face, arms, hands and neck.

How does a chemical skin peel work?

A chemical skin peel works by removing old, dead skin cells at the surface of the skin to promote new cell growth.

What happens during the procedure?

Your Clinical Aesthetics consultant will apply the gel to the area to be treated and this will be left to work for a few minutes. The peel is then neutralised and appropriate skin care and sun block are applied.

What does it feel like?

You may experience anything from a mild tingling to warming of the skin.

What will I look like immediately after each treatment?

Following your treatment there is normally a slight reddening of the skin. You will be able to resume your day-to-day activities.

How many treatments will I need?

For the best results, we recommend a course of 4 – 6 treatments, spaced out at weekly to 4 weekly intervals.

Every treatment plan is different depending on the client’s skin type and requirements. Your Clinical Aesthetics Consultant will advise you regarding your treatment plan during your consultation.

Aftercare

After receiving a chemical peel avoid intense sunlight and high temperatures for 7-10 days. We recommend using a high factor sunscreen for this period as your skin will be quite sensitive after the peel.
