Pen Microneedling

New collagen and elastin for younger, smoother, firmer skin.

Very popular with celebrities this treatment tricks the skin into thinking it has been wounded. This triggers the production of new collagen and elastin for healthier, younger, firmer skin.

I’d read about Dermapen in the magazines and decided to give it a go. The results were obvious after the first treatment. My skin seems to have woken up. It looks younger and smoother and it feels great! This is definitely part of my routine now.

Since Roberts McCarron introduced Pen Microneedling to Barnsley this treatment has become incredibly popular.

Since we introduced this treatment to Barnsley Allison has carried out hundreds of procedures and we have scores of regular clients for it. Hardly surprising given the many benefits it has over traditional roller needling.

Pen Microneedling utilises a very clean and precise in/out motion by delivering the needles in a high speed, vibrating, vertical motion.

This treatment causes the skin to repair and rejuvenate producing fresh, new, younger-looking skin. It is particularly useful for the treatment of stretchmarks and all kinds of scarring including acne and operation scars.

You can arrange a free, no-obligation consultation with our Clinical Aesthetics Consultant, Allison Roberts who will discuss the results you would like to achieve and explain your options.

“Without a doubt, Dermapen works amazingly well across a spectrum of patients. It is incredibly versatile, and not only for people with scars.

It can provide skin rejuvenation as well as tighten, brighten and reduce the size of pores.

What’s more, all of this can be achieved within a single treatment.”

Frequently asked questions

What is a Dermapen?

It is the most advanced microneedling device available. It delivers micro-needles at a very high speed and in a vertical in/out motion.

How is the treatment administered?

The Dermapen is fitted with a sterile, single-use head which contains micro-needles and is moved over the skin while the head vibrates vertically delivering tiny punctures in the skin.

These punctures trigger the skin’s wound-healing response and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

How does it work?

Dermapen works by triggering your skin’s wound-healing response. This stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin.

As your skin is only concerned with its health and not its appearance it normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are repaired and functional. Microneedling treatments trick the skin into repairing these sites producing new, healthy skin.

The process of new skin growth can go on for months after each treatment.

What effects can I expect?

The effects of this treatment can be very striking. Dermapen produces new, healthy, younger-looking skin cells to replace older or damaged ones.

Is this treatment safe?

Microneedling does not involve injections and is minimally invasive so side-effects or allergic reactions are unlikely to occur.

How long will the treatment take?

Treatment will normally take around 30-60 minutes.

How will my skin look after treatment?

At first your skin may look red and flushed as if you have mild sunburn. This will pass quite quickly and your skin’s appearance should be back to normal within 24 hours.

How will my skin feel after treatment?

For the first few hours your skin may feel tight and mildly sensitive. This will pass within a few hours.

What is Dermapen used to treat?

  • General skin aging
  • Wrinkles
  • Lines
  • Folds
  • Crow’s feet
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne Scars
  • Operation scars
  • Chicken pox scars
  • Burn scars
  • Other scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Hypopigmentation
  • General lack of skin radiance
  • Lack of skin firmness

How soon after treatment will my skin improve?

The results of your treatment will start to show in around 6-8 weeks and will continue to become more apparent over the next few weeks as more of the healing process replaces old cells.

Is this treatment safe while pregnant?

Pen microneedling treatment won’t hurt you or your baby but the needles trigger wound-healing which in turn requires vitamins and nutrients which otherwise might be delivered to the baby.

For this reason pen treatment isn’t recommended for pregnant women.

Is this treatment suitable for all skin colours and types?

Pen microneedling works by triggering your own skin to naturally rejuvenate and so is safe for all types and colours of skin.

Other invasive procedures such as laser resurfacing are not recommended for Asian or Black skin due to the potential risks of delayed wound-healing, pigmentary changes and scarring.

Can Pen Microneedling treatments remove breast augmentation scars?

The pen has been used as an effective treatment for surgical scarring.

Can Pen Microneedling help with skin wrinkles?

The pen excels when used as a treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. Best results are seen over a period of 4-6 treatments.

Can the microneedling pen help with stretch marks?

It’s extremely effective in improving the appearance of (or eliminating) stretch marks.

Can Pen Microneedling remove repair surgery scars?

Yes. The pen is very effective in repairing surgery scars.

Does microneedling treatment hurt or make you bleed?

Depending on the depth of the treatment required, it’s possible to experience pin-point bleeding during the treatment but not ongoing. You may find temporary redness of the skin for and hour or so, or possibly or a day, depending upon the age of the skin and treatment depth.
